What did the everyday life of the inhabitants of Poznań look like after the Second World War? How did they find food, clothes and a roof over their heads? Where did they work and study? Was there any room for culture and entertainment in the city destroyed by the war?

We will discover the everyday life of the post-war city through the lens of one symbolic family. Although their story is fictional and was created for the purpose of this exhibition, it is a compilation of true stories. A tale about one particular family allows us to reconstruct the first months of the post-war period in Poznań – full of anxiety and shortages but also willingness to rebuild and adapt to the new reality.

The exhibition focuses on the chosen aspects of everyday reality. It presents the life of the inhabitants of Poznań in 1945 reconstructed on the basis of witness accounts, press articles as well as historical documents and scholarly publications. A selection of materials allowed us to demonstrate an array of challenges faced by the inhabitants of Poznań.
