Today hillsides in Poznań’s city centre go mildly down to the Warta River Valley. 1000 years ago they looked completely different. They were steep and intersected by small valleys. At their edges and at their bottom there used to be numerous small hills – the relics of Sven the Continental Glacier’s activity. Only Przemysł Hill and St Adalbert Hill survived till this day. No trace has survived of the smaller hills. Today mountains such as Musza Góra, Złota Góra, Łysa Góra, Góra Kawalerska and other forgotten hills are only names on historical maps.
The valleys with tiny streams shared a similar fate. Some of them can still be seen far from streets, in backyards and gardens (for example, at the back of the buildings on Potworowskiego Street and Chociszewskiego Street in the district of Łazarz, and next to garages at the back of Bonin Street). The memory of the others is only preserved in street names such as Nad Potokiem Street [By the Stream Street] and Nad Wierzbakiem Street [By the Wierzbak River Street] in the district of Sołacz.
