Exercise 1
The snow beater
Before Sven the Continental Glacier began to shape the landscape, he had to make sure he had the right mass. He patiently formed ice. He beat snow, turning it into firn. But this was not enough for him. He pressed more and more until firn turned into a beautiful sky-blue glacial ice.
This was no easy task! To create 1-cm-thick ice, you need snow that is even several dozen metres thick. The process itself can take even 100 years!
Compete with Sven!
Grab a grip ring or a ball and squeeze it. 10 repetitions make 1 mm of ice.
How much ice can you squeeze out?
10 repetitions – 1 mm of ice
100 repetitions – 1 cm of ice
1000 repetitions – 10 cm of ice
10 000 repetitions – 1 m of ice
