At the beginning of the game Sven the Continental Glacier had the upper hand on the field – he took its whole northern part and did not leave much room for manoeuvre for Team Warta River.
The Continental Glacier sent his meltwater from the north. It flowed into a large river which extended from today’s Warsaw to Berlin (today it is the Warsaw–Berlin Proglacial Stream Valley). Water flowed through today’s Poznań, from the north to the south.
However, Team Warta River waited patiently. It directed its water from the vicinity of today’s Konin to the west. It used the proglacial stream valley formed by Sven. However, it could not get further to the north. Sven’s meltwater was much stronger than its stream.
For 2000 years, until the halftime, there was a tie.
At the beginning of the second half Sven the Continental Glacier became weaker. He moved back his meltwater to the north to the Toruń–Eberswalde Proglacial Stream Valley. He left buried ice blocks on the pitch, which slowly melted.
The Warta River gradually redirected part of her water to the north. She used land depressions formed in the areas where ice blocks kept melting.
The key moment in the game came 14,000 years ago when the Warta River made a bold tactical move: she redirected all of her water to the north. This time her Team turned out to be strong enough and won the game.
Since that moment the main river in Poznań has been flowing through the city from the south to the north.
Human Being
At certain point, the Human Being joined the game. At first, he walked into our sports arena shyly. Soon, however, he became more confident and went into action. Patience has never been his strong suit. He often changes his mind. He is stubborn and convinced he knows everything best. Even if nature gives him signs to the contrary. He stubbornly keeps transforming the landscape, improving rivers, burying land depressions, flattening the hills. What are the results of his actions?
