‘Does it sound the same at the bottom and at the top’

Our ears are able to tell where the sound is coming from. We know for example which way a vehicle is coming from or which tree a chirping bird is sitting in. The reason for it is that the same sound appears to sound differently depending on the circumstances. It sounds different when we hear it from a small distance than when we hear it from far away. Even the time of the year and day can affect sound.
