The end of the Year 1945

The lives of many families in Poznań slowly begin to stabilise and regain some semblance of normality. Adults return to work, children to school. The inhabitants renovate and equip their homes piece by piece. New institutions and workplaces opening in the city are welcomed with great enthusiasm. New investments are realised. However, the city and its inhabitants will have to cope with the consequences of the war for many years to come. In December 1945 a huge number of buildings, especially in the city centre, remains damaged and the work on removing debris is ongoing. For many years to come people will be living in shared flats. They will continue to struggle with shortages of food, clothes and other necessary products.

How will the story of Zenon and Jadwiga’s family unfold in the new, post-war reality?
Will the flat they share with the other family become their temporary shelter or a permanent home for years?
How will they cope with everyday challenges, combining different roles, duties and chores?
Which moments from those first months after the war will they remember most?
