Memories of Young People

In the summer of 1945 the youth from the Poznań Voivodship were given a homework to write down their memories from the occupation. Some of these accounts were published by the Western Institute a year later. The next year the Ministry of Education announced a national competition for schools. Children were supposed to present their war memories in the form of drawings. In April 2025 the collection of 7,000 children’s drawings and notebooks gathered during this competition was added to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.
