Anna Grzymała
Rain of Police, 2021
Anna Grzymała is a painter by education but uses both image and word. She ranks the two means of expression equally. She writes stories, then uses acrylic paints on canvas to illustrate them. She has taken an interest in fairy tales, which shape behaviours and attitudes at an early stage of life. The artist recreates the structure of this genre and thus takes control of the mechanisms through which traditional tales operate. By assuming the task of fairy-tale author, she narrates the world on her own terms. In the text and accompanying painting, which were created for this exhibition, she examines the sources of organized and state-sanctioned violence and seeks opportunities for liberation from cultural limitations.
