Teresa Pągowska Ballet, 1957

Teresa Pągowska (1926-2007) was a painter. She studied painting and wall techniques at the State Higher School of Fine Arts. One of her teachers was Eustachy Wasilkowski. She defended her diploma in 1951 and then worked for many years as a pedagogue in Gdańsk, Łódź and Warsaw. Her paintings, rooted in new figuration and the tradition of colourists, were a remarkable phenomenon in post-war art.

The painting Ballet reveals her incredible sensitivity to colour, which is characteristic of her entire body of work. She is one of the most important contemporary Polish artists. Unfortunately, the University’s collection does not possess many works of art by female artists. That is why we want to give space in this room to them. We want them to be seen.
