Anna Goebel, Reliefs, 1995

Anna Goebel is a visual artist and a professor of fine arts. She graduated from the Faculty of Interior Design and the Faculty of Painting, Graphic Design and Sculpture in 1977, obtaining her diploma in the studios of Prof. Jan Węcławski and Prof. Magdalena Abakanowicz. Then she took up a post as Abakanowicz’s assistant in the Tapestry Studio (later known as the Artistic Textile Studio) and then ran the studio independently in the years 1999-2022. She creates spatial compositions and objects, using natural and recycled materials.

The works from the series Reliefs, made in the artist’s own technique, remind us of bark texture, growth rings and arid soil – evidence that nature fits into the matter through time. The work’s small size means that looking at it requires focus and closeness. It is an invitation to read carefully the things that usually escape our sight. It is a kind of an album of natural forms, which differ in terms of details but essentially belong to the same eternal process of transition.
