Piotr C. Kowalski, A – Poznan Łazarz ul. Sczanieckiej – Poland 1 from the series Temporary paintings – Transient paintings, 2021
Piotr C. Kowalski, a painter, a professor, a yearslong lecturer at the University. He received his diploma in painting in 1978 at Stanisław Teisseyre’s studio. In the years 1993-1999 he was a dean at the Faculty of Art Education. His 2003 exhibition titled Collection I gave rise to UAP’s collection. In his work he abandons the traditional workshop in favour of a radical record of reality.
In the works of art from the series, the artist puts blank canvas directly on the ground, letting dust, tire marks and pedestrians’ footsteps themselves ‘paint’ the composition. This method makes the work an authentic, physical mark of a particular location, documenting the dynamics of the city life without interfering with a brush.
