The Sobańskis’ tailoring and dressmaking workshop was established in the 1960s by Bożena. Soon her husband Kazimierz joined her and together they managed to build a reliable and recognisable brand.

As their daughter Elżbieta says:
‘My parents ran the biggest and the most famous bespoke tailoring and dressmaking workshop in Poznan. My dad was responsible for cutting the fabric, conversations with customers and taking measurements. Everything depended on him. My mum could conjure up anything. Therefore, we sewed costumes for theatres and opera houses at the workshop.’

Bożena continued to run the workshop even after her husband’s death. For the next 25 years. Her daughter Elżbieta and Bogdan Stróżyk – a tailor whom the Sobańskis cooperated with almost from the beginning – helped her. After her mum’s, and then Bogdan’s, death, Elżbieta decided to close the workshop. She could not find any successors of the old tailoring and dressmaking masters.

‘There are many people behind every success. Without great co-workers, there is no workshop. Bogdan would come to the workshop already after 6 a.m. and leave after 4 p.m. I told him many times: “Bogdan, what are you doing at this workshop?” He would just smile.’
