Janusz learnt how to repair and renovate old clocks on his own by reading foreign specialist books and, more importantly, by meeting other clockmakers and building relationship with them. He still extends his knowledge today. As he says: ‘self-education is the key.’
‘What was crucial for me? Talking to experts, to old clockmakers. They are the real guiding stars. I have learnt from them things which they had spent their whole lives exploring. When they see that someone is passionate, they are very eager to share [their knowledge].’
An important place where you could extend your knowledge were also chambers of crafts.
‘From time to time we had industry meetings at the chambers of crafts. We exchanged views and information. Nowadays chambers of crafts are in decline because there are very few clockmakers left.’
