The beginnings of work in the profession

This is how Partycja remembers the moment she decided to become a hairdresser:

‘When you are a teenager you want to have some money of your own so you want to work somewhere during the holidays. My dad said to me: “Then come to work! You’ll learn how to wash hair in a jiffy.” Washing hair, sweeping out, cleaning the bowls and brushes, tending to disinfection took time but seemed easy so I said to him: “Sure”. I would get into the car, my dad would take me to the salon, I would clean everything, do other things as well, help everyone, and I liked it!’

‘When there was nothing to do, I would watch my father trim hair. He wanted to teach me more: “If you are not doing anything, watch me trim hair”. So that I knew how to do it. I felt as if he wanted to draw me into this profession. “What’s the harm in gaining such skills? You don’t have to be a hairdresser but you can have the skills!”’
